Hi ! We live in rural Sussex, England, and have a lot of interests between us, including Aviation, Genealogy, Cyberpunk, Classic (MG) Cars, and Classic Buses - and also our collection of dogs and chickens; and we mustn't forget our ponies, 'Storm' ( he was supposed to pull a trap one day, but he's living a peaceful life instead ! ), and 'Pickle', who does nothing at all except eat, and about 60 goldfish in our garden fishpond.
We are;
Standing; My older brother David (snr.), Me; Richard (Dick) Gilbert, Tom Grocott (husband of our younger daughter Joanne), and our son David (jnr.)
Seated; Sarah (girlfriend of David (jnr.) at the time, but now his wife), Joanne (shown here with her first bump, but now a mother - twice!), Kathy Gilbert (wife of Richard), and our older daughter Amanda.
Since that picture was taken we have two new additions. Holly Louise Grocott, Joanne & Tom's first daughter was born on 14 September 2002. She's totally delightful and made us both grandparents for the first time. And our latest big event was on 20 September 2007 when Joanne (& Tom, and the rest of us) welcomed the arrival of little Megan Elizabeth Grocott, who is an absolute sweetie and doing just fine. Congratulations !
Kathy worked at Chailey Heritage School (for physically handicapped children) for 14 years, but eventually decided to take a well-earned retirement - time off for good behaviour ! She also recently achieved an Open University degree, but now spends three days a week looking after little Holly, because Joanne works those days at our family business, Skyline Aviation. So Kathy is the company childminder, and didn't get the expected retirement after all.
Amanda works at a polo centre in the summer, but has spent the last two winters in Argentina. That's because her partner Diego is a professional Argentinian polo player, and they run a business together importing polo ponies, tack etc.
Joanne completed three years at university (Anglia Polytechnic at Cambridge) and married Tom Grocott in May 1998, so she is still J.S.G. but not a Gilbert ! She had been working in the aviation business at Gatwick Airport for some years, but from 2003 started working in the family business (Skyline Aviation), and Tom is in advertising. They live in the delightful village of Mayfield, Sussex, about 15 minutes up the road.
David did film studies at Staffordshire University (Stoke on Trent) and is now working in the computer business - we don't understand what he really does, but it seems to pay his bills - and he lives in a fine new house in Uckfield with his new wife Sarah.
We all love our house in the country - it's called Well Cottage and we've been here since 1994. We run a small business called Skyline Aviation from home. It's a brokerage for organising air cargo charters and leases around the world. Sometimes it does well, and sometimes it doesn't !
